Early in the pandmeic, the Media and the Democrats wanted Trump to panic and do a bunch of things that, they hoped, would crash the economy and end his chances at re-election. Unfortunately for all of us, Trump did panic. He let Fauci and the CDC and the WHO issue their ever-shifting recomendations, guidances, and mandates, he allowed the country to be locked down, against the prevailing science, and that was the beginning of the end for the Trump Presidency.
He never recovered from the self-inflicted wounds they dared him to make and from what I’ve seen since January, he hasn’t learned much from his colossal mistakes.
In stark contrast, watch what Ron DeSantis is doing in Florida. The Media and the Left are desperate for him to panic too. They know that if he does, his meteoric rise towards the White House will end right here in the late Summer of 2021. If he panics and does all the things they’re demancing of him, his Presidential aspirations wil die before they even have a chance to begin.
But DeSantis is not Trump. He seems to understand what they are trying to do to him, and he’s not panicking. He is calmly going on about the business of protecting those he can protect while letting the rest of his citizens go on about their lives unmolested.
That’s what Americans want, on balance, they want to be left alone. And the Left knows it. And that’s why they are so desperate to derail DeSantis before he can prove that leaving people alone works. They don’t want us to realize we can get along fine without them. Because if we do, it will reveal that the last 18 months were exactly the lie we all knew it was, and 2022 and 2024 will become the biggest red waves in recent memory.
So light a candle for Ron DeSantis and light another one for his backbone. With any luck, he can continue to resist the umbelieveable pressure being brought to bear by the press, who are doing things like ignoring the fact that Biden is seeding Florida and Texas with positive cases while the Press ignores worse statewide outcomes in states that are run by Democrats, and massaging positive hospitalization and death data to make it seem like Florida is faring uniquely badly.
I’ll always be grateful to Trump for showing Republicans a new way to deal with the institutions that have, increasingly, been built around the philosophy of eliminating Conservative thought and policy. He showed us a new way to fight. But when it came to actually understanding policy and implementing it, he was a bit of a disaster. And in the end it cost him.
Already this year we’ve seen many of the GOP hopefuls who aspired to the Trump legacy fold under the pressure of our elite insitutions, precisely when strength and fortitude was required…. Nikki Haley and Kristi Noem come to mind. The movement can’t afford to lose DeSantis as well.
