A notable passing

When I first discovered Rush Limbaugh as a teenager, the local Virginia AM station where I discovered him had Watergate Break-in Mastermind* G. Gordon Liddy on in the slot right after Rush. Today, Liddy died at the age of 90.

Let’s be clear, Liddy committed a serious crime. This country cannot survive if we begin to lionize agents of the government breaking into buildings, stealing information and blackmailing officials.

That said, there is no doubt that Liddy, in addition to being a crook, was a fascinating guy (It’s worth noting that he did his time honorably and paid his debt to society). I became a “G-Man” listener back in the day and read his book WILL, which is a must read. The story of Liddy’s life is well worth your time. In a lot of ways, some good and some bad, his is a quintessential American story.

* I’m using the word “Mastermind” because that’s how literally every article published about him today has described Liddy and it amuses me… because the Watergate break-in was one of the dumbest klutziest break-ins in the history of break-ins.
