Ten days ago I wrote a post arguing that despite an increase in cases, Michigan does not need another COVID lockdown because the case increase was not resulting in levels of hospitalizations and deaths that could threaten to overwhelm Michigan’s healthcare system (some of us are old enough to remember that this was the justification of the original “two weeks to flatten the curve”).
Well it’s been ten days and Michigan’s case numbers have begun to flatten. They got up to a high of 9,000 or so, which is 90% of their highest totals ever recorded back in November. But their daily death rate is going to stall somewhere between 45 and 50. Back in November, with the same number of daily cases, the daily death total was almost three times as high, at 130.
So I just wanted to come back here to let you all know… George was right!
