WTF is the GOP doing!?

As I was coming of age politically, the Republican Party was primarily about smaller government, fiscal responsibility and lower taxes… that was what first attracted me to the movement. Sadly, the GOP is most definitively NOT that anymore. W Bush was shameless in his zeal to blow up the budget in service of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and expensive social programs like Medicare Part D. The deficit and/or the debt was not mentioned a single time in any of the Trump/Biden debates and neither issue was a key platform of Trump’s re-election campaign, this despite Biden’s clear promises to spend a buttload (there’s that word again!) of our money on a blantant Progressive wish list.

It is what it is, I guess.

I’ve long since come to terms with the fact that there is no longer any constituency in America for smaller government and lower spending, and worse, that there is no longer a party willing to stand athwart the road to financial ruin shouting “NO!”… but is it too much to ask that the GOP at least pretend to care?

Pssst… guys… I wanna tell you a secret…. you don’t have to spend more money… you can pause for a minute, put away the National credit card and let the economy recover for five minutes. Yeah… you really can! That’s something you’re actually allowed to do!

I mean we’ve spent something like $8 TRILLION in the 14 months since the COVID crisis began. By contrast, we had not spent much more than $4 trillion in any previous 12-month period ever in our nation’s history. Spend five minutes watching the Debt Clock spin like a broken Vegas slot machine and you’ll see what I mean… it’s scarier than any horror movie. We are in WAY over our heads and we are staring down a massive financial crisis because of our absolute refusal to rein in our spending. The rational response of ANY opposition party to ANOTHER $2 trillion in infrastructure spending at this point, especially after a COVID spending bill that was like 9% actual COVID spending and 91% pork and graft, should have been “NO FREAKIN’ WAY… NOT ONE MORE THIN DIME!”

Biden is calling his nationwide tour to push his new spending bill the “get America back on track tour”… really? I mean I know the guy is a little mushy in the head but you don’t have to go very far or read very much to see that America is already back on track, the train is almost up-to-full-speed and it’s headed for massive growth with flags flying and its horn blowing. The Country doesn’t need anything more than for Government to get out of the way and let the Country completely re-open from these pointless lockdowns. Literally nothing more is required of the old tax-and-spend Liberal in the White House than that. But he just can’t help himself, even though spending another $2 Trillion can only slow that coming growth in the long term, not enhance it.

But that argument is not what we’re getting from our “courageous” GOP… there is no Conservative Leonidas in either the House or the Senate. Not a single Republican willing to open negotiations with The Democrats the way Michael Corleone negotiated with Senator Geary…

Instead we got “YES! We agree that we should immediately spend another truckload of dough on infrastructure projects that don’t really have anything to do with infrastructure, we can’t wait to do it! But… maybe we spend slightly less money than you’re asking for? Pretty please…” And of course, they’ll roll over in the end and give Biden almost everything he wants in exchange for some token reduction in the total cost of the bill so that they can all run back to their districts and crow about what courageous deficit hawks they are.

And no one is even talking about this. The GOP has completely ceded the battleground to Biden and the Left on spending.

Worse than that… they have abandoned the field entirely…

AND NO ONE CARES!
