Hollywood’s Hypocrisy: I will not be ruled

On Sunday I was doing my usual routine… you know the drill… giving my kids their weekly COVID tests and searching the house for six masks (3 each) they would need to make it through eight hours of masked schooling… you know, totally normal stuff, nothing at all weird about anny of it. And then, strange images began to flash across my TV screen of our Aristocratic betters celebrating themselves, entirely mask-free, at the Emmy Awards… and I completely lost my mind.

Quickly jumping on social media I saw that I was not alone. Almost every reasonable person was raising their hand and saying “hey, WTF!?” But almost before we had typed the “F” in “WTF”, an army of Bots, Astroturfed accounts, and genuine Useful Idiots (including prominent members of the Press) had already swarmed onto social media to defend their glamorous new overlords.

“They didn’t have to wear masks because the event was outside!” they explained. Except that’s not true. The event was inside a plastic reinforced canvas tent with four walls, a roof, and every door covered by a flap of the same material. Were these Useful Idiots actually arguing that COVID infects more easily inside the concrete, wood, and glass of the LA LIVE Arena than it does inside an impermeable plastic and canvas tent?

Yes, apparently they were…

Well, they were until video surfaced of Seth Rogan at the event, anyway. Seth decided to make some very incovenient jokes, saying essentially, “Guys, this is ridiculous… we are not outside and there are too many of us here for this to be safe.” Well you could almost hear the Useful Idiots running to Google to type in “why is it OK that they didn’t wear masks at the Emmys?” hoping to stumble on an article by Jennifer Rubin, or a video clip featuring Brian Stelter or Chris Hayes or Joy Reid that would explain it to them in ways that would soothe their raging cognitive dissonance.

But such a clip must not have existed because the excuse suddenly shifted from “they were outside” to “everyone was vaccinated and/or had been tested.” Well, this excuse came as a shock to the rest of us Californians who know that the state rules for Mask Mandates require EVERYONE to mask up indoors, regardless of vaccination status. There is, of course, no science to support this concept and it flies in the face of Joe Biden’s repeated assertions that the vaccine absolutely protects those who get vaxxed from serious COVID or death…. though if you’re looking for coherence from the Mushroom in Chief, there is no physician on Earth who would advise holding your breath until you get it.

But anyway, back to Google went the Useful Idiots…

But before they could come back to us with the official Elite-approved response, LA County Department of Health came out with what I imagine they thought was going to be a brilliant piece of cover for their friends in the Aristocracy, but which actually wound up giving away the game entirely.

First they told us that there were extra safety precautions in place at the Emmys… by which they mean everyone had to be vaccinated or prove a recent negative test. But again, as anyone with a kid in a California school knows, these “extra safety precautions” are nothing that we parents aren’t already doing. All my kids’ teachers are vaccinated and both my kids have to get tested every week… they are still forced to wear masks at al times. Not “special” at all, in other words.

So… that was a big swing and a miss…

And then LA County officials finally made a critical admission that gave the game away. They went on to note that film and TV productions get special COVID exemptions. This is because the State of California makes a ton of money in tax revenue and other fees every time a movie or TV show shoots here in the state, and they know that if they put too much of a COVID burden on those productions, they could easily move those productions to Texas or Florida and cost California millions of dollars.

That cannot be allowed to happen. And so the State goes easy on the movie and TV biz with regard to COVID rules, and hopes that you and I will never ask the obvious question… why does the State think that COVID spreads less easily on a movie set than it does anywhere else? They don’t want you to ask that because any answer they tried to give would be completely ridicuous and reveal them as the craven bureacrats they don’t want you to know they are.

And so we continue to live in a two-tiered system, where there is one set of COVID rules for California’s Elite, and a completely different set of COVID rules for the rest of us Proles.

This cannot stand. We fought a war to get away from Aristocracies. And I will not be ruled.

Who will stand with me?
