Let’s all overreact to the VA election results

My own Hot Take began to form as I watched the MSNBC crowd fight through tears to deliver the news that the tusnami that will eventually swamp Biden and the rest of the National Democrats had already taken out the Leftists in Virginia and was continuing on, bearing down on the Congressional and Senate races just now gearing up for 2022.

Chris Hayes summed up his opinion by saying that it appears the Republicans have rejected Trump, having realized that they don’t need a divisive figure like Trump anymore because anyone can assemble a coalition of angry white racists.

After I stopped laughing, which took a long long while, I realized that as insane as Chris’ take was, it actually contained a kernel of truth.

I’ll say it one more time for the record. I did not support Trump in 2016 and I thought his Presidency was going to be a disaster. I was wrong about that. His policies were great for the country, even if his personality and pettiness were not. If not for the latter, I believe he would’ve won going away in 2020 even with the Pandemic in effect.

Sadly, he could not contain his ego and he lost.

But the truth is that Trump’s loss might have been the best of all the gifts he gave us. Because last night we DID learn that we don’t need him anymore, though not for the insane reasons posed by racial grifter Chris Hayes.

If you look through the results from VA last night, Youngkin didn’t win just because he was a fresh energetic candidate running against a tired retread with Progressive ideas driven primarily by racial divisiveness. He won because Democrat voters did not show up. Across the state, McCauliffe’s totals were well below what Biden got from Virginians only a year ago.

That’s because Democrats are demoralized. They see how awful Biden is and they know on a gut level what that means for their party over the next two years. They are trapped in a slow motion car wreck and all they can do is hunker down and brace for impact.

Thing is though, I believe they were demoralized in 2020 as well. They knew Biden was a terrible candidate even then but they were so animated by their hatred of Trump that they turned out to vote in droves.

It’s become an article of faith on the Right that there’s no way sleepy Joe Biden could have attracted 81 million votes, the most ever, even more than a transformative Black President Obama got in 2012. But too many on the Right believe that those 81 million votes were fraudulent.

I don’t believe that.

The votes were real, but they were not FOR Biden… they were AGAINST Trump. We need to learn from that.

The next three years are going to be a disaster for the Democratic Party. Biden is going to get worse, not better. And if he can’t make it to the finish line, they’ll be stuck with Kamala Harris, possibly the worst, most inauthentic national candidate in my lifetime… certainly since Jeb!

They are going to be utterly demoralized by the Fall of 2024 and the only thing that can revive them would be to stoke their hatred by re-nominating Donald Trump. I don’t believe that should be our way forward. It’s time for someone new. Someone like Ron DeSantis. A Candidate who is palatable to the Trumpian Right, but also someone who won’t send those blue collar and moderate voters in VA who abandoned the GOP a year ago, running for the hills.

2024 is a long way away and I may very well turn out to be wrong. But that’s my way too early, probably over-reactive, reaction to last night’s results.
